The oldest cultural Institution of Greece

The Reading Society was the first cultural institution of Modern Greece to be composed of honorary members, founding members and benefactors. Responsibility for the administration of the Reading Society devolves upon the Management Committee which is elected for a period of two years and consists of a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, two library curators, and two curators of the building and its contents.

In accordance with its statutes, the purpose of the Society is to study and research issues that promote the culture of Corfu and the Seven Islands. Its special aims are the collection, preservation and display of historical, folkloric, archaeological, linguistic and artistic materials which bear witness to the cultural and intellectual life in the Ionian and Adriatic regions, as well as arranging art exhibitions and supporting local and regional cultural initiatives.
